Toni Garau Spanish

Garau's work is a reinterpretation of the use of a material with a history: thread, transforming it into the main element of a collection of artworks. Mallorca's textile history is represented through his thread, artistically extending its use and importance in the present day.

Garau reinterprets this industrial past in the form of art; using threads, he invited us to investigate the collective memory and history of a prosperous town in the Serra de Tramuntana of Mallorca, bringing to life a material that was once dormant. His work is multifaceted, as he works with painting, collage, graphic design, photography and video. Toni Garau compares the creation of his pieces to “weaving on a canvas”, where the multidisciplinary nature of his technique paves the way to an elegant and sophisticated artwork, where the threads used are the main character, revealing simple lines and visual frameworks.
